# Data requests

Handle a data subject request in Form Plume: search submissions by submitter email, then export a copy or permanently erase them one form at a time.

A data subject request is when someone asks for a copy of the data you hold on them, or asks you to delete it. Form Plume handles both from the Data requests tool.

Open **Data requests**, choose the form, and search by the normalized submitter email address.

## Export first when needed

Create an [export](/docs/submissions/export) when the person needs a copy. Review the result before sharing it and use a secure delivery method.

## Erasure is permanent

Erasing the matching records removes their submissions and schedules [attached files](/docs/submissions/attachments) for deletion. This cannot be undone from the inbox.

The tool searches one form at a time so the request stays inside the correct data boundary. Repeat it for another form only when that form is also in scope.
